From a one-off event to the way you work
One-off studies fade. Programmes keep building on themselves. Here's how to run one: a monthly funnel review (owners, stages, dates), planning every quarter (which products and teardowns are next), a yearly value plan for each product line linked to its margin plan, and training people all the time. These KPIs keep it honest: funnel coverage (% of product cost being actively studied, target ≥60%), how many ideas get implemented, cost visibility (% of the parts list with a should-cost, target ≥80%), how fast savings arrive, average payback, and how often ideas are reused.
